What causes foundations to settle?
While there may be a number of causes, foundations generally settle because of excess moisture or poor drainage, shrinking and swelling of clay soils, roots from large trees growing near the foundation, or plumbing leaks.
What are the signs that I have a problem?
Cracks in the walls of your home or the exterior brick, sloped or uneven floors, leaning fireplaces and chimneys, or a sagging roofline. There are also several little telltale signs that may tip you off to a larger problem, such as windows and doors that will not open or close properly, small gaps forming between ceilings and walls or floors and walls, or small gaps between exterior brickwork and doors or windows.
What's the difference between a pier-and-beam foundation and a slab foundation?
A slab is a poured foundation at ground level; pier-and-beam is located above ground (these homes will typically have a crawlspace underneath).
So what's going to happen to my yard?
Hopefully, nothing. We will do our best to see that minimal damage is done to your yard, trees, and shrubbery, though removal may be necessary if tree roots are causing your foundation problems.
Will my homeowner's insurance cover repairs?
Perhaps, depending on your policy and the initial reason for the damage (problems caused by plumbing leaks, for instance, may be covered). Please consult with your insurance company or agent.
